S.IP.01.11 - Make purposeful observation of the natural world using the appropriate senses.

Use graphic organizers in your class to help the visual learners. I took a first grade GLCE about the five senses and made a graphic organizer above using the website bubl.us. Graphic organizers can be used in any subject to organize a students notes and information. Plus the learner will be able to picture the information, learn it quickly, and retain it for longer periods of time.

Is school necessarily a place?

Is school necessarily a place??

My definition of school is a place where children make friends, grow, and learn. Can children grow, learn, and make friends outside of the school building? Absolutely!
Children learn from parents, grandparents, and friends in other homes. When exploring outside and playing pretend children are learning. When a child gets burned by the stove or stung by a bee, he or she is learning what not to do. Children learn at church by listening to their teachers.
School is not necessarily a place. If we are open to new adventures we will learn something new everyday.

Cats and Dogs

This Vendiagram was made using http://www.gliffy.com/. This tool is helpful when teaching children about comparing and contrasting 2 or more objects. I could use this in science class when talking about animal classification or in English class when reading and comparing different stories.

History Timeline

This timeline was made using http://www.timetoast.com/.  These timelines are easy to create after creating an account on the website. Timelines can be used for history, art, music, business, and science related lessons. Teachers can create them for their students, or students can create them to study from.

music quiz

This quiz was made using http://www.mystudiyo.com/. Quizzes can be used for every subject and in every class to qickly test student's knowledge. These quizzes can be taken online at home or in school. The website also creates a score board where each child and teacher can see how they did on the quiz compared with other students in the class.

Creating and using rubrics in the classroom

This is a persuasive essay rubric that I created using rubistar. Rubrics can be created to grade different assignments based on a point system. The rubric I designed grades middle school students on the persuasive essay: Should students be allowed to use laptops in middle school classrooms?
The teacher then grades the paper on the thesis statement, evidence and exaples, transititions, and closing paragraphs. Many other categories can be used, these are just a few. Then, the teacher can use the discriptions under each number to score the paper based on each category.

Taking online surveys

Online surveys in the classroom can be used to poll children about what they have been learning in class. They could be used for online tests or when checking for student understanding. They can also be used for fun activities. Such as taking a vote for where to hold field day or what kind of party to hold in the classroom. These surveys can take different format. Multiple choice, essay, and short answer are only a few options. You can find these online surveys by using Survey Monkey website and Zoomerang website. Using online surveys provides teachers with quick answers and feed back from their students.
